Global Repair, Marketing Office for Sittler Compost Equipment, in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), MOE of Ontario, Environment Canada, A & L Labs and Soil Foodweb is proceeding to establish quality standards for making compost. We have created monitoring forms to allow composters to keep accurate records and collect data. We are also assisting and encouraging the marketing of compost. In addition we have created educational material, provide seminars and consultations. The need and demand for quality compost is drastically increasing, both economically and environmentally. As our topsoil depletes globally, at a rapid pace, it is in our best interest to encourage the production of quality compost to compensate for this loss. Much of the compost produced and on the market is of low quality and has a high salt index which prohibits growth. In addition the presence of pathogens in poorly decomposed compost can be detrimental. ABCTM Compost must meet a range of criteria, pass tests and be guaranteed of the highest quality.
