Sittler Quality Windrow Turners Model #1014, #512, #509, #507
New Hydraulically Assisted (HA) Option NOW Available, eliminates need for Creeper Gear
Sittler Windrow Turner Model #509, shown above, is ideal for farm, municipal and industrial composting.
Composting waste is much more efficient when the compost windrow is allowed to breathe. The waste must be exposed to sufficient oxygen in order to increase microbial activity. Turning the windrow stimulates the micro organisms which break down coarse organic matter. It is important that the windrow is turned frequently and efficiently. The more the windrow is turned the sooner it matures. If treated properly with our mineral blends and turned sufficiently, rich, quality compost can be ready in as little as 6 weeks. You will know when the compost is fully digested when the temperature of the windrow drops. The original materials will no longer be identifiable. The compost will be dark brown, fluffy and smell sweet and earthy like good quality potting soil. Efficient composting gives you the tools you need to grow more abundant, high quality produce and have a safer healthier environment.

A threading frame allows the operator to raise and lower the CompostexTM geotextile cover. Efficient outdoor compost at a fraction of the cost of under roof systems. CompostexTM is an innovative, protective membrane which covers over the windrow, retaining heat and humidity and shedding excess rainwater. It promotes faster more uniform aerobic decomposition. The CompostexTM cover is light weight, semi permeable, allowing for ideal aeration and inert to acid and alkaline agents.  Efficient outdoor compost at a fraction of the cost of under roof systems.

Water Injection System with Water Wagon

Sittler windrow turners come with optional water injection systems, allowing water, inoculants or liquid slurry to be injected into the windrow. The systems may be hooked up with a removable tow bar, which pulls an 8 ton water wagon or may be connected with an extended hose to a reservoir.

Model 509 comes with 2 water nozzles.

The powerful nozzles inject moisture through out the windrow.

The water tank valve controls the water flow. The tank is filled by reversing the hoses on the Honda pump.

A hose from the tank attaches to the turner.

The water tank hooks up to a removable
tow bar attached to the windrow turned
Keeping the moisture level at 50 -60% is essential for the pile to heat up causing weed seeds to germinate and die and for the elimination of phyto toxins. With the Sittler water injection system liquids are evenly distributed. Model 507 has 1 nozzle for water dispersion, model 509 has 2 and model 512 has 3. Sittler manufactures a water tank that hooks up to a tow bar attached to the windrow turner. The pump has a 2” capacity and is powered by a Honda 5 hp motor. An optional remote valve controlling water flow from the tank, may be controlled from the tractor.
Sittler has also developed a specific 2 tank inoculation/compost tea application system with cone bottoms recommended for easier more efficient cleaning and prevention of biofilms and pathogen contamination. See your spec sheet for details.

Why Buy a Sittler Windrow Turner?

•Protective rubber flaps to stop flying debris and direct it back to the windrow.

•The side scrapers are long, adjustable and shaped to be of maximum efficiency in moving the excess on the sides back into the windrow.

•Square tubing is used for structural reinforcement and strength. Prevents the turner from twisting or going sideways in a heavy windrow. The tubing also ensures the longevity of the machine as it holds everything together and in place. Protects the roof from caving and the machine from buckling.

•Sittler has incorporated a double spiral of the drum knives to ensure balancing even under very adverse conditions such as an extremely dense, large windrow.

•Extended knife holders 2 inches longer provide extra holding strength

•Drum knives made of hardened steel are 2" shorter and reversible. Turning the knives at ¾" ensures longer performance and that the windrow remains clean right down to the ground, no possibility of a smelly, anaerobic layer forming.

•Our gearboxes are also protected and are part of the machine, not a separate large box.

•The Sittler drum has been tested in a live situation where rice was thrown into the windrow, after one turn, samples were taken from various parts of the windrow and placed onto a clean surface. It was immediately evident that the mixing was very thorough with even distribution throughout the windrow.

•The smaller machines model 507 and model 509 can be towed on most roads so it is not necessary to lift them.

•Our fleece roller is unique to the Sittler machine; it makes using the fleece cover a simple operation. The fleece is picked up by the roller, as the drum turns the compost and then gently dropped to cover the windrow. The fleece covers help to control the compost cycle and enhance the quality of the compost. They are beneficial in wet and hot, dry climates. In wet climates or rainy seasons, the covers keep the excess moisture out of the windrow and in hot, dry climates/seasons they keep the moisture required in the windrow and protect the microbes from the hot sun.

•Optional watering systems inject water, inoculants or liquid slurry into the windrow. The systems may be hooked up with an optional tow bar, which pulls a water wagon or may be connected with an extended hose to a reservoir.

•We offer phone, email/snail mail technical support with database formula calculations for making quality compost to our clients. Your questions are welcome at our "One Stop Compost Shop". The quality of your end product is important to us. We believe in making humus, your success is a reflection of our efforts and an environmental benefit for all.
